Chinese New Year 2021 Day #3 – Punggol Waterway Park
Yes, I skipped a day. I won’t bore you with that one as it wasn’t really monumental. We decided to go to the cinema to watch one of the latest kid flicks. I swear Fred Quimby will be turning in his grave over this ‘remake’ feature film, Tom & Jerry. What a shocker. Worst film I have ever seen and a slur on what I used to watch when I was Jude’s age with my Sis and Granddad. Shouldn’t be allowed. Anyways the kids enjoyed which was the important thing. So that’s what we did yesterday. A lazy day. Lay-ins. Lunch at Jewel Hawker, the film and then dinner at Ma Maison for some superb pork Tonkatsu – home and bed early. That really was it haha. Plus this bloody shoulder is still ‘reducing’ my desire and ability to have fun…
But, today is a different story. Today we decided to go exploring somewhere new again. Off we go to one of our new favourite places on Red Dot, Punggol. Have you been? You really should try it. Coney Island, Punggol Settlement, superb restaurants in pop-up container ‘villages’ – it is really uber cool and a should visit in these Covid times of finding new shit to do and keep the kids happy. And that is today’s agenda and why we did this;
Chinese New Year 2021 Day #3 – Punggol Waterway Park
Firstly let’s be having some Daddy-Pedia; Do you know what the word ‘Punggol’ actually means? In Malay, it means ‘throwing ing sticks at the branches of fruit trees to bring the fruit to the ground’. How about that? That right there means that this area has a history of being a fruit-growing district and/or potentially a ‘market’ for wholesale fruit growers and sellers. Love it.
This place is built around a section of Punggol Waterway and is located along Sentul Crescent. It interconnects to 3 other park areas too via park connectors, I wonder if we’ll get chance to see any of these today; Punggol Promenade Punggol Point Walk, Punggol Promenade Nature Walk and Punggol Promenade Riverside Walk. It is also segmented into four different themes: Nature Cove, Recreation Zone, Heritage Zone and Green Gallery.
Funnily enough, we could not find one of those ‘themes’, but despite that, we had a blast. This is stunning. Green landscaping right through the middle of HDB-land. Playgrounds, wildlife, adventure bridges and the like all the way along from coast to coast. We ended up at Coney Island and a short walk to Punggol Settlement for refreshments and a delicious dinner. What a day.

What a cracking place Punggol has become. Fast-approaching one of our mist-visited suburbs in Singapore. It is just awesome and has so much more stuff happening too. Watch the video and see the SAFRA club there too. The action was now taken by #1 to get his membership and get some benefits from doing NS as that place looked incredible. Chinese New Year 2021 Day #3 – Punggol Waterway Park was just a brilliant day. Lunch at midday, a lovely 5Km walk, refreshments and then a great dinner. Home for 2000 and bed for the kidlets. Perfect. No iPad/iPhone, fresh air, family laughs and conversation, nature, and exercise. All the things Wifey and I wanted them to have today. This is a must-try in our country lockdown list for Red Dot – ENJOY!!!
