Langkawi, Malaysia, Day #2 Kennett’s Tour
So what happened on Langkawi, Malaysia, Day #2 Kennett’s Tour? Well a very lazy start as we were al shattered, as you’d expect from the previous day’s travel. A consensus was agreed that we’d just chill and enjoy the location we had chosen. We would blitz The Westin this day. What’s offer, we are about to find out! Now what a great hotel/resort The Westin @ Langkawi is. It’s an all in one, 4 pools, 5 restaurants, beach, kids club, spa, beach, water sports – pretty much all you could want.
Down the road is a shop centre and the ferry terminal if you fancy some island hopping, as we plan to do on day 4 and disappear to Thailand for 3 days and then back to Westin before flying back to Singapore.
The staff here are incredible. So attentive to every single thing you need/want. Westin be proud of these guys, truly amazing! The food is also exceptional. Be prepared for BIG BOY portions, so maybe suggest a wee co-share sometimes. Seriously massive portions of yummy goodness. And the breakfast buffet is a cracker. One interesting foodie point of note re this hotel is the massive Arabic menu and influence, and their very own resident Arabic Chef – so if you like your Kebabs, you are in for a treat here.
Off to Splash Pool first – fountains and rock-pools and little shady areas, which is a must as boy this place gets hot when the sun is out.
But then BOOM, in comes a storm and massive rain. Island scenes disappear – literally as you can see below. It chucks it down, very Singapore style here re the storms. Literally they come out of nowhere. And the funny thing is they go South to North, and seem to hit the mountains, and then slam in to reverse and go North to South. Like a ping pong storm. It’s weird as you think, phew storm gone and out comes the sun, and then 20 minutes later it is back from the other direction. But they are flash storms, so over in a few minutes and then storming sun again.
Off to the main pool next for lunch at the pool bar/bistro, also called Splash. All served in Bento boxes and again really really good food. Haver a looksie below at what we quaffed. As usual more to come in IslifeaRecipe.net. So pics and a brief description below for you to whet your appetite. I have to say for pool food this is pretty damned good.
Funnily enough the sun came out for us for lunch!
So when the tide was up high all you can see are these three ‘poles’ in the distance. I actually thought they were some strange fishing contraption that the locals had erected. I happened to be chatting to one of the bar staff and asked him what they were. He said that actually is a shipwrecked yacht that slipped its moorings in a storm 12 months ago, and got blown on to the rocks where it has remained sunken ever since. Now here is the interesting part. Not one single person has claimed ownership to the yacht – OMG! The money some people have!
After lunch the heavens literally opened again. The kids had gone with Mary for a nap as they were still so tired, but yours truly soldiered on, with Tiger in hand, so I could write up the family blog for day #1 for you to read. The pains I put myself through.
Now refreshed, we got spruced up for dinner. But first a quick beverage at Breeze Bar, at the top of the hotel. Simply stunning views of the surrounding coastline from up here, as you’ll see from below. And yes, as the name suggests, it is beautifully breezy up here.
Off now to the restaurant of choice, a place I spied from Jude and my walk on the beach yesterday. This is Kayu Puti. This place is a restaurant on steroids, believe me. Pictures and a brief description here, depth of detail on IsLifeaRecipe.net. If you stay Langkawi, nearby, I would say this is an absolutely must visit location. We ate like Kings and Queens, and believe me we ate and drank a LOT. Singapore prices to set the scene for you though. But worth every single cent in my reckoning. AMAZE-BALLS!!!
