Langkawi, Malaysia, Day #3 Kennett’s Tour
Our last day for the first stint in The Westin today. We decided to pop and explore another beach location and were advised to go visit Patai Cenang. A rather nice beach. White sand that is completely compacted, so much so that cars drive up and down it continually. But word of warning, in low season everything seems to close down on the beach, albeit the shops on the main drag behind the beach are open. So this day we literally walked from North end to South end to find somewhere to have lunch, but so glad we did as Casa Del Mar was really nice – so here comes; Langkawi, Malaysia, Day #3 Kennett’s Tour.
Amy shoots some monkeys – not literally ha ha! These cheeky little buggers were skipping between the balconies, foraging for food, cameras and jewelry I suppose.
Even the babies. Dad is saying’ “I’ll learn you son!”
A little day trip today for lunch on another beach. Here we are at Tapai Cenang, Tapai meaning beach in Malay! Pretty nice huh. Word of warning though, this week everything was shut apart from the bigger hotels like Casa Del Mar where we had lunch. The only thing available in the beach was water sports and occasional umbrella!
Not bad huh? We walked North to South end of the beach in about 15 minutes, and luckily I stumbled across Casa Del Mar, a beautiful little Moroccan styled hotel of 40 rooms (yes that is on the big side here).
See what I mean, a little bit of Morocco in Malaysia. Beautiful little pace this. Very quiet. Design more for couple of honeymoons and the like – so it was explained as we rocked up with three noisy kids!
The gang getting ready to get stuck in to some food. Lovely view of the beach in front, a fan whizzing above. I like this place. Consensus just to have lunch, and then back to The Westin for a swim, shower, dinner.
Ollie cracks in with lamb shawarma wraps. Very good indeed for this little outpost.
Amy ducks in to some chicken quesadillas and spicy beans.
Mary goes for a rather spicy Aglio el Olio pasta with fresh prawns.
I opt in for their home-made spicy beetroot burger. A cracking vintage cheddar made this burger for me. It was an OK effort. A little tough as cooked rather well-done, but tasty it has to be said.
This is a classic. Any ideas what this is? Well Jude made it. It is indeed a chip camp fire. Get it? Logs and sauce = flames.
And then we get back to the room and POW!!! Thanks The Westin for this and the gifts of fruit and cheeky monkeys for the kids – special call-out to; Sundar Magar (Asst Front Office Manager – checked us in and looked after us the WHOLE stay), Fadzil Hassan (Asst Exec Housekeeping) and Effendi Ramley (Director of Rooms) – clearly your doing too my friends. Thank you it meant a great deal to come ‘home’ to this and your lovely letters! Very special!

Jude’s coconut deep fried turkey drumsticks – pretty damned good!
Arabic burger for me, an absolute cracker with veggies and whacked between two monster pittas.
Amy and Mary had ‘Lamb Mary – this was superb. Slow cooked for ever it seemed – you literally touched this and it fell off the bone. Seriously an amazing dish!
I ordered this salad platter dish. This was stellar. Fresh dates, I have not had since Xmas at Mum’s. olives with some chili sambal, the most incredible feta that had been marinated/maybe steamed in vine leaves, and then also these cream cheese ‘balls’ stuffed with some herb or other we cannot define – but an OMG moment for sure!!!
Ollie goes for Arabic flat bread stuffed with cheese, topped with salad and Feta. Pretty plain was the feedback!
Not sure if Amy enjoyed her lamb or not – you make your own mind up…
And there you have it folks Langkawi, Malaysia, Day #3 Kennett’s Tour. It was an absolutely fantastic and truly varied day. We had the usual family blast, some very unexpected attention from The Westin management, thank you again for that. Keeping those little hand-written letters! Great food, great fun, great country. Who could ask for more. Off to bed early as tomorrow is an adventure that we have no idea how it will unfold – more of that tomorrow. We hope you all, as much as we did – ENJOY!!!
