We now have mobility, so let’s spin to Canterbury.
Only a couple of shots here as it was a whistle-stop tour of buying wedding presents and cards, then a wee shop for a few essentials whilst the UK Summer Sales are on and then a dash to have some lunch before shooting home.
But worth showing as the thing with coming home is seeing the history. Something you really never get to see in with Singapore or Australia – definitely not in Singapore with most buildings being less than 20 years old, apart from some heritage stuff around Boat Quay.
Everywhere you step, everywhere you look is steeped in history. Canterbury is great!!!
Here is the gang at the start of the main High Street. A market city of old with a huge city wall surrounding it, with entry gates dotted around the circumference.
Here we are at Westgate Towers. Westgate as in the gate at the West of the city wall. Yes indeed that simple. Now an entrance for the cars in and out of the city innards behind the wall.
Imagine trying to storm these covered in chain mail, with a blunt sword and wooden shield as soldiers behind threw rocks, hot oil, fired arrows and all and sundry at you.
Today it was kids attacking it whilst on Skype and Facebook, not even bothering to look up at the beauty of this city. Sad really!
To the right of that gated entrance is the river running all around the castle. Just stunning isn’t it? Punt rides up and down in the sun, ducks quacking, flowers in bloom. Just beautiful. Well done UK and well done Canterbury – this is the stuff I truly miss of the UK.
