Chinese New Year Day #1 2021
It’s Mid Feb 2021 and it is Chinese New Year time.
2021 is the Year of the Ox, and I think everyone on the planet, not just our Chinese mates, are all hoping this is not a repeat of 2020.
It’s a half-day today on Thursday and then we also have the Friday, and Monday on either side of the weekend so expect a couple more blogs to come of the entertainment we have in store for the kids. Wifey was working today so I had the kids all to my lonesome from lunchtime until dinner, well two of them. Some fresh air, exercise, feeding time and no electronics was my overall plan.
Let’s see how I got on with that plan;
Chinese New Year Day #1 2021

My little Co-pilot, Sous Chef and BFF virtually skipped off the school bus to join me. An early finish for him and Amy today, and for me of course haha. Loving the half-day so far.

A quick taxi to have lunch. Off we go to the beach, to Sandbank Restaurant – the very same place Wifey and I had our wedding reception all those years ago now. Brilliant food and some delicious Virgin Bloody Marys to wash it all down (yes, despite 2 days ‘off’ I am still dry since 1/1/21). It was busy here, you just can’t really see all the people. Sunny, breezy, people-watching, with a little bit of work of course as always – but not a lot. It’s family time. Missing Wifey/Mum though xxx

Loads and loads of scrummy food. Nicely done Sandbank. Deeeeeeeelicious!!! Happy campers all round thank you!!! Roast pork belly that tasted like Filipina Tocino, Prosciutto pizza ‘w’ basil pesto cheese, lamb & sage sausages with mint dip, truffle cheese fries, Wagyu sliders – hell yeah. A perfect feast fit for my Prince and Princess today.

Oh yeah, and a stonking Gelato with heaps of fresh vanilla seeds in there. A very happy chappy is Jude Jude, I think you’ll agree?

A walk down East Coast gets broken up by the monster playground area near the monster McDonalds (Boooo). Here is where I made some schoolboy errors; 1. After playing, I walked us on with no liquids in the bank and it was quite a way to the next stop, 2. It pissed it down and we had one umbrella only, and 3. I realised after a short while this perhaps was not such a good idea after only a week post-op on my shoulder – yes, she started to complain massively…

Sometimes this is just the best place for the kids. No, I don’t mean the playground. I mean prison hahaha… Lock em up!!!

Jude Jude on these rollers gave me an excellent idea. Sustainable and carbon-neutral energy production. Have loads of kids just running continually on these and connect it up to a turbine. If I get one of these fitted in the condo and have Jude Jude and Amy on these all day I’d have a zero electric bill, and in fact would use the aircon more. It’s a genius idea. Hey, come on back in the day we sent kids down the mines at a very early age. If doing this instead they should be grateful to us parents, and they’re saving the planet (and my electricity bill).

Meanwhile, outside Mum’s house in the UK…

Meanwhile, near my other Mum’s house in Tokyo

Meanwhile, in Singapore at the Wave Park, @ Lagoon East Coast… things are surely different for me and the kids as we re-hydrate after our rather long walk with no fluids… Phew!!!

It’s cool here. Watching the riders speed around doing aerial acrobatics, and more importantly, falling off spectacularly… This is a mere 15-20 minute walk from the condo. It’s why we love East Coast living and Siglap living, this is all an extension of our front garden. Oh yeah, the beach is behind me, and to the right is the amazing (newly refurbished) Lagoon Hawker… Love you Siglap.

If you needed any evidence of it being Chinese New Year, check out the queue at Jumbo Seafood at the East Coast Seafood Centre Complex. Holy shit. That’s a lot of people queuing up to get crabs, cough cough…

The modern-day Sir Stamford Raffles statue???

“I see no ships?” or is he checking for ice-bergs again???

Action Man. Actually, he just realised he needs an emergency wee and the taxi has arrived at the same time. “And, action…”

And we dash home to our local hawker to meet Mum for dinner, and.., Where the f*ck is everyone? Every stall is closed, apart from Mookata. Well, that is that decision made then. Also with my gimp arm, I can’t cook, so sat back and had Wifey & #1 do the cooking this evening – which was fun to watch and take the constant piss out of. All our mates from the hawker then arrived rather smartly dressed, with the girls wearing actual dresses (for the 1st time) to celebrate their staff dinner and do some Facetime’s back home to China, and judging by the amount of wine and alcohol they put on ice to get absolutely smashed – sadly no travel this year for anyone to go home of course so it was all local celebrations.
