Fishing with the Knibbsy’s
What a day. What a bloody hot day. What a bloody hot but fantastic day with our mates. Amy got over her sickness, Jude did not so was home with Mary. Ollie, Amy and I with the Knibbsy’s with Archer drop-out lastminute.com. Here is Fishing with the Knibbsy’s. Look at the first photo and the last photos and guess how sunny it was today on the water. I felt like an extra in the mini-series Chernobyl. “It’s alright sweetheart I don’t need make-up it looks like my skin is burning off already…”. We had a cracking day, truly, and if you read on to the end you will see if we were successful with our fishing endeavours.
Let’s begin our little story of Fishing with the Knibbsy’s.

The motley crew before we set sail for today’s adventure from Punggol. Off all around Kony Island, Pulau Ubin, Pulau Tekong, and much much more. Did I mention it was bloody hot?
I now have a new pasta making machine. I got it for Knibbsy’s birthday, but he has one already so I am now keeping it. We had a lovely tour round Punggol until Knibbsy realised he had the wrong address for the driver. The poor driver even had to do a 22 point turn from a shop-centre that Knibbsy sent him to. Archer bailed, so I had an Eski with loads of veggie food in it that no-one wanted. 2 fish virgins today, you know who you are. Amy’s first time and she catches a cuttlefish of all things. Megan caught a beauty. With little or no competition between Knibbsy and I (NOT!!!), we were more concerned with us both having a fun day not who caught the most or the biggest. But, as it happened…..

Here is the craft for today’s little excursion. A rather nice craft and crew, maybe a little shade could be provided though, and mend the aircon. Did I mention it was bloody hot?

Here we are now setting sail. Lunch-boxes packed. Sun-tan lotion at the ready. Sweat towels. Sunnies. And some rather nicely chilled beers and some Rose to boot. Ready Skipper Knibbs? Yes we are crew – I even bought a new t-shirt he said…

The other great thing about doing these fishing trips is that you get to see ‘another side’ of Singapore – literally. You get to see the Kampong floating fish farms up close. In fact, our Captain bought his live bait from one of these. A little known fact is that in the deeper water fish farms is that circling them continuously is likely to be ‘packs’ of Tiger Sharks. No skinny dipping allowed!!!

Really cool to see these so close up – reminders of yester-years.

Everywhere you look… This chap takes a back-in-time step too. Hand-fishing with a net in the shallows. It’s a skill, believe me, to throw these circular nets weighted at the edges to catch small surface fish for your dinner.

It was such a lovely day. You know. We sat, we chatted, we joked, we laughed, we played, we drank, we ate, and of course we fished. Captive audience for each other we were and it was brilliant. No tech at all. We just giggled all day long.

#1 and Daughter dressed to kill. Well, dressed ton kill fish. Ollie could be employed down the Florida Keys dressed like that. I wonder where he got that shirt?

Excuse the pun, but strike #1 goes to KNibbsy himself. Well done Skipper. His rod nearly snapped when this thing hit his prawn. A big fight and some sore arms and hands for Knibbsy. But, wow worth it. Check this bad boy out…

A belter. Not far shy of a 4Kg Grouper. A stunning specimen of a beautiful dining fish. Also, bless him and Marisa donated this beauty to The Philippines – AKA, my Mary. Weeeeee!!!! Shit now the competition is on, I need to score some fish or King Knibbs will be gloating for weeks and weeks…

One of the guys said we were quite bear the flight path for Changi. I said Nah don’t be daft, we’re miles away…

King, Virgin, Cuttle… In that order!!!

Miami Vice or fishing, make your mind up?

We pull in to a secret spot near to Pulau Ubin – Sea Eagles soaring high above. This is nature baby, and I am hunting in it too… Move over Sea Eagle and give Daddy some space. I have a feeling!

The feeling was good. BOOM! Strike #1 for Daddy. Sea Bass in the bag. We’ll get a couple of rather nice fillets from that thank you very much… Skipper Knibbs, here I come!!!

Hold on a minute, it’s #2 Skipper Knibbs. The boy is on fire now. Another cracking Sea Bass. Brownie Points kicking in too from Wifey I am certain. Might even be allowed to watch England play tonight… Ha Ha!!!

Amy up next breaking her duck. But what fish did she catch on a hook and line with a live prawn for bait? A Cuttlefish. Can you believe it? A Cuttlefish. It’s in the bag though, it will be consumed. This is Megan and Captain trying to scare it to get it to squirt out all the ink before landing it. Amy ran off because she was scared of catching coral, then octopus and then finally squid.

Hold the phone Skipper Knibbs. Kennett is on again. It is #3. A beautiful little snapper now. My Mary is getting a seafood Smorgasbord here, just like she wanted post Aquarium visit last weekend. I am coming for you buddy. Scared, Skipper Knibbs skulked off to the front of the boat, unable to deal with the pressure of 3 in-a-row Kennett…

Surely this cannot be happening. It is #4 in the same location. A small Grouper, but the Smorgasbord continues for Mummy and Skipper Knibbs is under even more pressure haha. I was going to throw this back but advice from the Captain was no, some good fillet from this little thing. Skipper Knibbs, we’re gonna need a bigger boat if I keep going like this fella!!!

The BOOM, up steps Megan to the floor and secures a beauty of a Snapper too. A cracker that she single-handed reeled on-board. A belter. Whoop Whoop.

We move then to the final fishing ‘hole’. Ollie dresses like a grass trimmer in Singapore, desperate to make a kill that sadly did not happen. Do not worry #1 pro’s don’t catch on many occasions. It’s all good. No matter how hard you try. Everyone else had pretty much allowed the Sun to win the last battle today. Did I mention it was bloody hot? Right to the end, it was relentless!

Catch of the day! No not me. Here is our catch and I am impressed. Monster Grouper plus baby Nephew, 2 nice Sea Bass, and 2 nice Snapper – oh yeah and a token CuttleFish from the blue, literally.

And here is the happy crew. An amazing team effort was achieved. An array of different species all now on offer for consumption. Well, first a photo or two right?

That’s right, I caught four! Whoop whoop! Happy family days! Loved it today!
