Happy New Year 2017
We were so not ready for this. We had just come back from Philippines and were so unprepared. What to do tonight? What to do for New Year’s Eve? How to make it fun? How to make sure Jude would be OK? We can’t go too far as it will be a nightmare to get back home with the tired kids. Shit, what to do? Then my Mary spots that the Shagies, our mates, are performing at some Bedok HDB 2017 countdown gig. How about we give that a go we though, its close, but its also potentially flawed. How wrong our initial thoughts were – we had such a Happy New Year 2017 like you would not believe. Bedok you should be proud of yourselves for what you put on tonight it was absolutely incredible!!!
3 bands.
1 Chinese singer.
1 resident DJ.
Free party packs.
Fireworks.
Me singing (yep it’s true, read on!)
It was just amazing. Bedok and PAP Bedok, you have made a very happy family tonight and we look forward now to 2017, invigorated and happy. What a great experience you laid on for the locals, and I hope in one way or the other we can include ourselves in that – well I did sing for you (more of that in a minute). Here in pictures is our Happy New Year 2017 – ENJOY!!! We hope you had as much fun as we did.
12 beers under Jude’s buggy – lets ignore the no beer after 2300 in a public place ruling – we’re all having fun here. No one said anything either which was pretty damned cool. Front row seats for us. Handshakes with all the ministers responsible for Bedok, and some baby kissing of course. But all so light-hearted. It was great to see a Singapore with its hair let down this night. We had such a blast, truly, such a blast!!!
And now to some video footage you lucky people. 2 short clips of The Shagies in action – amazing they are. And then, the highlight of the night ha ha – yours truly gets pulled from the crowd to sing on stage with the 3rd band. Break Free by Queen is being sung, and the guy jumps of stage and hands me a microphone and drags me on to the stage. Luckily there is only about 400 people in the audience, and also luckily I had had those 4 or 5 beers in me. Wow what an experience. Did I get away with it at Happy New Year 2017?
First up is our mates The Shagies giving it all they got before disappearing to work the rest of the night at Clark Quay. Bless you guys – you truly rocked the house – well Bedok HDB. SO great to see you guys – Happy New Year 2017.
And here they go with another song – one that clearly Amy loved – yep Justin Timberlake and Trolls.
We had it all for our celebrations tonight, even some of the very best Dad Dancing I have ever seen. You got to love Singapore Heartlands parties – this really was just such fun.
And next up were another band and this is when the guy singles me out from about 400 people and hands me the microphone and drags me on stage, oh shit!
“You are going to sing with me.” he says.
“Good job I had those Tigers!” thought I.
Game face on. It’s time to sing a bloody hard song – Queen and Break Free. Jesus. I gave it my best shot, despite not knowing all the words or the band running order. What do you think. What you can’t see is that I am on big screens all over the place, and in front of me is about 400 people of all ages, and I am the only Angmo in the place (literally). Phew!!! I did get some cheers, or are they jeers, as you’ll hear on the footage. My Jude said he liked Daddy’s singing best – bless. So for you my family & friends here is yours truly belting out some New Year cheer for you – Happy New Year 2017.
