Kennett’s Siem Reap, Day #5
Sadly our last day today. A short visit to the Siem Reap Old Market for some last minute bargain hunting, a few last Angkor Beers, a bite to eat and then the tuk-tuk and off to Singapore. Wow we have achieved so much in 5 days in Siem Reap, our new best location friend. What an amazing city, and of course country. Very sad to leave, but still we had until 1400 today for Kennett’s Siem Reap, Day #5.
We bumped in to Amy’s new best mate, who happen to live on Meyer Road, East Coast, Singapore. What a cray small world. Lovely kids, the ones she has been going bananas with in the swimming pool at the hotel. This time we’re in Central Cafe, near the Old Market for lunch and in they walk. Colliding time!

Amy’s new mates – Sophia and Christopher. Strangely enough living on Meyer Road in Singapore – virtually neighbours!
Around the market are lots and lots of stop and stare opportunities, as well as a variety of smells (some good and some right on rank to be absolutely honest).

Cooked by the sun, and clearly with copious amounts of chili padi. They called these snails, but clearly they are more like little clams or cockles. I wonder how you open them to eat them? This is Cambodian street food on steroids!
What I love about South East Asia markets is the segmentation. You want kitchenware, then go to this bit, you want bras go to that bit, dried fish here etc. Its so cool. But which stall to choose as they all do the same, exactly the bloody same. He/she who gives the best price is a good policy! We purchased trousers, dresses, shirts, bags, Kampot pepper, the spicy Cambodian peanuts, even a Mookata grill.

Bugis eat your heart out, this is markets Cambodia style, and Amy is gonna shop til she drops!

These ladies blew me away. Hundreds of them all sat in the corridor of the market selling their wares. Fish being chopped, meat being sliced, vegetables on display, and all prepared and sold from the floor.

They go on and on and on. They were never ending. What a sight.
I wish we had eaten here on Kennett’s Siem Reap, Day #5. This is the foodcourt area of the Old Market. Check this place out. You would love the smells and aromas wafting around here. Soups to die for being prepped, sold, and slurped on. Some happy faces here, getting sustenance for the day.

If only we had time to eat here. A hawker in the market, and what a huge one. I really wanted to eat here. If only there was smell-o-vision. OMG!!!

The last supper? No just the last lunch. A sad affair. Here we are at Cafe Central, opposite The Old Market for our last bit of food before departing our newly beloved Siem Reap.

One stand out dish here was Ollie’s choice. Kampot pepper toast burger – ground beef, tomato, lettuce, grilled bacon, Cheddar, tomato, Kampot pepper, mayonnaise between sliced toast. Original indeed and pretty damned tasty to boot! Well worth a go if you happen to be nearby!
