Langkawi, Malaysia, Day #2 Kennett’s Tour
So what happened on Langkawi, Malaysia, Day #2 Kennett’s Tour? Well a very lazy start as we were al shattered, as you’d expect from the previous day’s travel. A consensus was agreed that we’d just chill and enjoy the location we had chosen. We would blitz The Westin this day. What’s offer, we are about to find out! Now what a great hotel/resort The Westin @ Langkawi is. It’s an all in one, 4 pools, 5 restaurants, beach, kids club, spa, beach, water sports – pretty much all you could want.
Down the road is a shop centre and the ferry terminal if you fancy some island hopping, as we plan to do on day 4 and disappear to Thailand for 3 days and then back to Westin before flying back to Singapore.
The staff here are incredible. So attentive to every single thing you need/want. Westin be proud of these guys, truly amazing! The food is also exceptional. Be prepared for BIG BOY portions, so maybe suggest a wee co-share sometimes. Seriously massive portions of yummy goodness. And the breakfast buffet is a cracker. One interesting foodie point of note re this hotel is the massive Arabic menu and influence, and their very own resident Arabic Chef – so if you like your Kebabs, you are in for a treat here.

Off to Splash, the first pool of today @ The Westin, Langkawi
Off to Splash Pool first – fountains and rock-pools and little shady areas, which is a must as boy this place gets hot when the sun is out.

Yep the kids are having MAX fun, clearly as is Mary

With occasional ‘must have’, Facebook shot!

Our so cute little munchkin, having an absolute ball!
But then BOOM, in comes a storm and massive rain. Island scenes disappear – literally as you can see below. It chucks it down, very Singapore style here re the storms. Literally they come out of nowhere. And the funny thing is they go South to North, and seem to hit the mountains, and then slam in to reverse and go North to South. Like a ping pong storm. It’s weird as you think, phew storm gone and out comes the sun, and then 20 minutes later it is back from the other direction. But they are flash storms, so over in a few minutes and then storming sun again.

And then in she comes. Rain, rain, and more rain – where did those other islands disappear to?

But did rain stop play? Absolutely not…

I actually did get asked to do this shot, thanks to my Mary. Not bad though!

Solitude lasted about 30 seconds and then gang swooped in!

And now it’s Amy’s turn for the Mermaid on a Rock Pose!

More Facebook, Facebook but lovely snaps of the gorgeous lady!

And pose… Lovely view and Langkawi not bad too ha ha!

As usual my gang make new friends in the blink of eye – an Italian family that have lived in London for ever and now visit Malaysia for the first time.

And before lunch a much needed afternoon nap for the wee man he has a; “I am just relaxing Dad!” moment!
Off to the main pool next for lunch at the pool bar/bistro, also called Splash. All served in Bento boxes and again really really good food. Haver a looksie below at what we quaffed. As usual more to come in IslifeaRecipe.net. So pics and a brief description below for you to whet your appetite. I have to say for pool food this is pretty damned good.
Funnily enough the sun came out for us for lunch!

Mary had seared bluefin tuna.

Baby Jude opts for beef satay skewers, very nice they were too.

Amy and Ollie opt for the chunky fish and chips

I went for the minced beef pizza with mint yoghurt, coriander and cheese – yummo, but holy cow filling.

Happy family upstairs at Breeze Bar, grabbing a beer before a walk along the beach to new restaurant adventures.
So when the tide was up high all you can see are these three ‘poles’ in the distance. I actually thought they were some strange fishing contraption that the locals had erected. I happened to be chatting to one of the bar staff and asked him what they were. He said that actually is a shipwrecked yacht that slipped its moorings in a storm 12 months ago, and got blown on to the rocks where it has remained sunken ever since. Now here is the interesting part. Not one single person has claimed ownership to the yacht – OMG! The money some people have!

This is an amazing story of this yacht that you can see ship-wrecked over there on the rocks of a nearby island. More above.
After lunch the heavens literally opened again. The kids had gone with Mary for a nap as they were still so tired, but yours truly soldiered on, with Tiger in hand, so I could write up the family blog for day #1 for you to read. The pains I put myself through.
Now refreshed, we got spruced up for dinner. But first a quick beverage at Breeze Bar, at the top of the hotel. Simply stunning views of the surrounding coastline from up here, as you’ll see from below. And yes, as the name suggests, it is beautifully breezy up here.

A beauty of a photo of my girls.

And of course we had to have one of the boys too!

“Mum look, Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate ship!” Says Jude. “RRRRRRRRRR!!!” “Facebook!” Says Mum.

Mwah, yours truly sneaks in with wifey and #2 Son.
Off now to the restaurant of choice, a place I spied from Jude and my walk on the beach yesterday. This is Kayu Puti. This place is a restaurant on steroids, believe me. Pictures and a brief description here, depth of detail on IsLifeaRecipe.net. If you stay Langkawi, nearby, I would say this is an absolutely must visit location. We ate like Kings and Queens, and believe me we ate and drank a LOT. Singapore prices to set the scene for you though. But worth every single cent in my reckoning. AMAZE-BALLS!!!
This was an absolute highlight of Langkawi, Malaysia, Day #2 Kennett’s Tour. It really is a must do!!!

And we’re now on the beach, walking to this rather interesting looking place – the restaurant for tonight’s dinner – Kayu Puti. Looking good so far!

I’m liking this – stilted walkways to a stilted restaurant!

Check out this mud-skipper – thousands of the little buggers dragging themselves round in the mud at low-tide.

He was not alone though. Every little black ‘dot’ you see here are actually crabs. 1,000’s upon 1,000’s of them.

And now we are inside – seriously have a look at this place – it is higgledy piggledy, designed to be mis-matched furniture. Colonial style on the outside and just crazily good on the inside. Designed by a chap called Bill Bensley.

Great big hammock style overhangs with cushions to ‘chillax’ on. Check out Ollie on the one nearest us.

And now My Mary’s turn – a rather beautiful photo it has to be said darling!

Jude getting in on the action now, standing in this corridor, supported by the beams from the old Dutch Ambassadors colonial residence (and the white boards from outside were from same residence).

Annex rooms in different styles everywhere – a little Ian Schraeger style – Singapore have you ever been to Scarlet Hotel? If you have, you’ll know what I mean!

Dreamy dreamy – Daddy wants to cook in this kitchen one day!!!

Baby Jude wanted in on the action again – this time stroking the cow-hide chair. It reminded him of Daddy’s work-bag ha ha!

I assume this is a Chinese, Japanese or Korean Empress headset. Just plonked in a recess, but as you walk past you cannot help but stop and stare! Or photograph in my case. There are these WOW moments all over this place!

More to come again on IsLifeaRecipe.net, but this comes out with the bread. Yes folks this is the butter, with a tomato spread. OMG!

An amazing variety of home-baked breads to boot!

A wee freebie up next – a fish and potato mix (I’ll research more) with caviar and red pepper atop.

This is where we sat eating our dinner – I know I know… How incredible is this for a dining experience – so when I get asked; “Are you ever moving back to Margate?” …… here’s your answer!!!

This is my onion soup. It’s stunning isn’t it – and then up comes Arthur, our waiter, with a teapot and ours in the liquid. Dear me, it keeps getting better this place!

Mini-beef sliders for Jude and Amy.

And my finished soup – thanks Arthur! A thing of beauty!

Ollie’s sous vide duck with 4 styles of carrot – I know 4 styles??? How many can you think of???

Mary’s Grouper fillet with parmesan crust and egg-plant.

“So Baby Jude what do you think of this place and the food? Having fun” Said I. “…..” Baby Jude didn’t say, but the face says it all!

My wagyu steak with leek crust and vegetables – look at that flipping plating, so intricate!

And now with food finished and it reaching 1930, one of the best sunsets I have seem starts to kick in. Uninterrupted views from our stilted seating area – so here come family shots of this amazing feat of nature!

If you’re going to look anywhere Baby Jude, look behind you – WOW!

As the sun drops lower the colours get more and more intense!

Kids just chilling together on the hammock – and PLEASE notice, not an iPad or iPhone in sight!!! Oh yeah baby – thanks Mother Nature!!!

Come on. come on I have to get in at least one photo on the hammock. One to test its strength and two to compare my red face against the sky – you can almost not see my face… Seriously though – LIVE this photo, thanks wifey!

Breath-taking!

Barman, Noah, was knocking out the park with his Gin cocktails – this one is very African/Middle East – cinnamon, black pepper, cloves, star anise, pandan etc. WOW!!!

Here’s his cart. Check the pipette bottles at the front left – each is a home-made bitters, that takes 3 months to make. He was allowing me to try some of the new ones in the making later in the night. In the jars are the supporting herbs like dried strawberries, candied and dried apple slices ety. OMG! Cocktail heaven, best I have ever had it has to be said!

A quick chocolate sphere for desert, packed with dark and white chocolate, crunchy bits, cookies and fresh basil – WOW!

Time to say goodbye and goodnight to Kayu Puti and it’s bed time for the munchkins and adults too. What a BUSY day, what a fantastic day!
Well there you have it folks, Langkawi, Malaysia, Day #2 Kennett’s Tour. What an absolute cracker of a 2nd day. So varied in terms of weather and activity, but such a great family day.
