My mate Dave comes to Singapore
We were talking and talking for ages about when the last time we actually got together. We think it was something like 8 years ago in UK. But as soon as he walked up on Tanjong Katong Road, it was like we had seen each other the previous day. That’s the demonstration of true friendship. Love him for that, and what a wonderful few encounters we had together. During the week we met for beers and tattoos and at the weekend we had an afternoon and evening of food at our locals. This is when My mate Dave comes to Singapore.

A rather nice view from Dave’s hotel. If he took a shot the other way he’d have had my work office in there. But facing this way he is looking at the sea and Seb’s apartment. Small worlds indeed on The Red Dot.
He meets me for a beer at Burp, and then it’s off to see my mate Derrick for yet another tattoo. I didn’t tell Mary until afterward, and blamed Dave ha ha!!!
Here she comes. Derrick is a legend of free-hand. As in a genius. This is my new concept. Circle of Life. Strong Koi Carp swimming round a Circle of Life. What goes around comes around… Bless Dave he sat there watching me grimace, and became the official photographer for me.

Getting to the nitty gritty now…

I reached a wall. This was all I could stomach for this sitting. Very very sore. So a pause for a week before finishing the middle piece and having the family names there somewhere. Now I think that looks damned good!!!
And then, of course, we had to have some refreshment of cold golden colour type. So amazing to catch up with my mate Dave. Of he goes to Bangkok after this little session, whereas I was up at 6 am to ferry to Bintan for a work off-site.

The weekend then kicks in and off we jolly well go to one of our favourite weekend haunts. We’re off to show off Lagoon Hawker Centre for a family lunch with our mate Dave. Both arriving at exactly the same time, and then ordering up a food storm of our favourite goodies and washing that down with beers from our lovely local… Can’t get much better.

Dave had always said he never wanted crabs. But then he found this…. All the way from Sri Lanka that is one monster of a beast. You would not want that thing crawling in your bed at night with those pincers. Wow!!!
I tell you what I love this photo big time. One main reason is you can’t see my stomach. But I just love it. My gang on one of our usual lazy Sunday’s. Love it.
After a brief walk home, we get to Siglap. Dinner is at our other favourite food place, Siglap hawker. We wanted to show off to Dave where we live, where we eat and chat as a family. I think he was impressed. So much so that he made these two short videos of other mate Dave bashing out his amazing Char Kway Teow and our Aunty Rojak serving up her legendary Popiah. Listen to the Dave comment when our Dave asks him re what’s in the sweet sauce; “Sweet” says Dave. Yep it is a secret.

And to finish the night a few more at the local watching the football. Just like the old days. Just 6,736 miles away, 25 degrees warmer, 10 years older. Apart from that no change. Football and beers with a dear friend.
